ICC World Cup: Opening ceremony starts in Bangladesh!

The opening ceremony of World Cup 2011 began with much fervour at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka's posh Mirpur area on Saturday evening.
A lively choir sang the country's national anthem – 'Amar Shonar Bangla' by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore – at the start of the ceremony as a jampacked stadium came live with passion and pride.
A Bangla band then took the stage and sang 'Chiney nao amake', inviting the world to get to know all about the country that is hosting a major sporting event for the first time.
Mascot, the elephant Stumpy, rode in on a three-wheeled cycle rickshaw.
And, as was widely written, so did the various team captains.
India's very own Sonu Nigam rang our with an English number -- 'Let's go for the glory' -- as open flames licked the stage.
Bangladeshis cast aside their usual reserved image and proudly displayed their sporting passion at the gala opening ceremony, as it got underway.
