Interview with jeeva

Jiiva is going ‘mainstream’ with Ko , his upcoming film. Four of his projects – Ko, Singam Puli, Vandhan Vendran and the 3 Idiots remake, are soon in offing. This Valentine’s month, the actor talks about turning a dad three months back and being married to his childhood sweet heart. Rinku Gupta listens to him.
HE’S looking leaner and meaner with his new haircut and toned appearance which he agrees, is for Ko. “The film is something I am really looking forward to. It will certainly be a big leap for me in my career graph since the expectations are high from this Jiiva - KV Anand combo.” Acting with Karthiga who debuts in Tamil and Piaa Bajpai, Jiiva plays an investigative photo journalist. Ask him about the experience and he says, “I was always interested in taking photos and even edited my own videos. I did a course in multi media before I became an actor. So when Anand sir gave me this 7D Canon camera for the film, I just grabbed the opportunity and clicked away to glory.” The homework he did for the role involved watching documentaries given by Anand to get the feel of the work of photo journalists and their body language.
Jiiva‘s current personal portfolio includes candid shots of kids with each picture speaking a thousand words. “I may have an exhibit someday,” he shrugs, clearly in love with his work. The music by Harris Jayaraj has taken them to exotic locales and the unit traveled to Norway for one song. “We had to trek for seven hours and return by 4 pm since the light was less. Once we even got caught in a blizzard! No one usually comes there to shoot and even people there were surprised! But the results are totally worth the trouble we took,” he reveals.
One terrifying experience during the shoot was jumping from the third floor of a building near Sowcarpet in Chennai. “There was a fire around me and I had to jump. It was the climax shot and I was really exhausted after a nearly round the clock shoot. I just did my shot and jumped and before I knew it, it was over. It was only later that I realized how dangerous it had been and the terrifying moments registered!”
Jiiva’s next is Shankar’s 3 Idiots and the actor is gung ho about the project.  “I play the character played by Sharman Joshi in the original. Of course I am super excited since I loved the original and now I get to work on the project with Shankar sir!” concludes Jiiva.
IN LOVE WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND
The triangular love story of Ko however is nothing like his own. The actor got married to his childhood sweetheart of 16 years, Supriya, and now they have a son, the three month old Sparsh. So what was their love story like, we quiz him. He laughs, recalling the good old days, “Supriya and I were the best of friends right through school. I would tell her everything. But it was only friendship. Then she went abroad with her family for a few years and later to Delhi. It was then that I realized that I missed her and this was something more than friendship. We would keep talking on the phone and kept up our communication. Though there was a bit of opposition, later everything fell into place and we got married.” So does he miss the bachelor life since he got married at 23? “I do think sometimes that I could have gone back packing and stuff if I wasn’t married! Marriage does mean more responsibility. But then I feel happy that I have a beautiful wife and family. It makes me feel complete,” he grins.Supriya is the anchor of his life and Jiiva clearly enjoys the joys of having a family to come home to. “She understands my pressures as an actor and pampers me when I need it. Of course we do have our disagreements but then we make up.” Talking about fights that are part of every couple’s life Jiiva laughs, “She starts the fights and I just agree with her in the end! But then I take time to explain when she cools off. However I must admit that she is a really sensible person and helps me stay balanced and cool despite all my work pressures. Thanks to her I can be myself in my home. My home is my oasis.”
LIFE AS A DAD
So how is he coping with being a dad now? “I am trying now to be the hottest dad! This involves working out in the gym and a strict diet! Of course life has changed now. I spend as much time as I can at home with my kid and have mastered the art of changing diapers! In fact we both spend some quality time giving oil massages to Sparsh. We spend time shopping for the baby as well. It’s another dimension to my life. In fact I am trying to show my love more towards Supriya after she has turned mom. I was really tensed during her C section operation and everything that she has been through since. I think women are so brave!”
KEEPING THE ROMANCE ALIVE
This Valentine’s Day Jiiva hasn’t planned anything big as yet. But he avers, “There may be some diamond earrings on the cards! She loves giving me little gifts from time to time whereas I don’t believe in the gifting stuff. I prefer giving her money so that she can buy jewellery or clothes.  She too prefers this. She is definitely more romantic than me, and surprises me constantly with gifts. I don’t keep money with me anyway and give her everything I have! But in the early days I remember buying her a really expensive Nokia cellphone. She gives me stuff like a Blackberry, a laptop or an iPod.” he shrugs. So how does the duo keep the romance alive after knowing each other for so long? “We go for long drives on the beach and holidays abroad. When I return from work I prefer spending time with her instead of friends.  Right now we are building our house on the ECR and she is helping me with that. I turn up at home earlier than scheduled and surprise her at times.  At home we prefer spending time together on our terrace or having a candlelight dinner even. And now, looking after the baby together has brought us even closer.”

Ponniyin Selvan to be a mega-budget epic adventure

Mani Ratnam’s Ravanan received mixed reviews from critics and the Hindi version Raavan bombed at the box office. So he is taking no chances with his next venture, Ponniyin Selvan. Only the best will be approved by Mani in terms of cast and crew and he has even roped in prolific writer Jayamohan to help in the script department.
Since Ponniyin Selvan is going to be a mega – budget epic adventure, he has turned to Kamal Hassan for advice as the latter has some experience in the same genre since he worked on Marudhanayagam. The director wished to obtain a few hundred horses for the shoot and Kamal suggested he get them from France as he himself used well–trained horses from the same place.
Kamal also recommended two more writers- Kavizhar Puviarasu and R. Murugan to the director to help with the script and Mani Ratnam was grateful for the timely help from a fellow genius.

Review: Singam Puli

In director Sai Ramani's Singam Puli (Lion, Tiger) the protagonist and antagonists do make brief attempts to use their brains. This strategy actually works most of the time. Besides, there's Jiiva's first ever double role to look forward to.The film has a deceptively casual beginning: a middle-class family consisting of parents (Kuyili and Ponvannan), a daughter and twin sons -- Shiva (Jiiva), who works in a fish-market and Ashok (Jiiva, again), who is a lawyer.

Gautham’s ‘Nadunisi Naaygal’ under trouble

‘Nadunisi Naaygal’ has incurred the wrath of certain sections of the society for its ‘content’ which allegedly portrayed human relationships in ‘bad light’. Close on the heels of few women associations and a political outfit raising their voice against the movie, Shiva Sena has now come down heavily on the film and its director. In a statement, the Tamil Nadu unit of the Shiva Sena said, “It is unimaginable to see that the culture and tradition of our Tamil land and Hindu sentiments disrespected in ‘Nadunisi Naaygal’. It has been the case in some of the earlier films of Gautham Menon”.

'Drive Angry 3D' Review

In 'Drive Angry 3D,' Nicolas Cage plays Milton, a father so guilt-ridden over his daughter's cult-related death that he finagles his way out of hell to save his granddaughter from a grisly Satanic sacrifice. Given this set-up, it's strange that Cage flies his freak flag at half-mast for this task; his demeanor here recalls older action favorites like 'Con Air' more than the cracked-out 'Bad Lieutenant' or the unintentionally hilarious 'Wicker Man.'

Movie Review Tanu Weds Manu

Director: Anand L Rai: Cast: R Madhavan, Kangna Ranaut, Jimmy Sheirgill, Ravi Kissen, Deepak Dobriyal, Rajendra Gupta: Duration: 2hours:
Movie Review: Tanu Weds Manu falls far short of your expectations of yet another Bollywood flick weaving around the tale of a starry-eyed NRI falling for a desi chic. Just like Strangers, director Anand L Rai has lived up to the expectations and given the audience a romantic story narrated in an unconventional and un-clichéd manner.
Tanu Weds Manu may give you a déjà vu feeling what with movies like Jab V Met  & Pardes  already having told the story along the same lines. Yet the movie strives to be different.
The plot of Tanu Weds Manu revolves around a shy, desi very unassuming NRI doctor Manu played by R Madhavan who falls for a desi girl Tanu played by Kangana Ranaut. The twist here is, Manu is unlike other stereotypical NRIs. He is quite old-fashioned and thankfully minus the accent.
But Tanu is quite the rebellious small-town girl, bold and beautiful with a vocabulary replete with expletives. Add to it her choice of life partner-a local don. You know the ending, that Tanu will wed Manu, yet the tale of the wedding finally happens keeps you engaged. Kangana finally gets a role in which she sounds convincing as the rebellious, bold & outspoken Kanpur girl.
Madhavan is as usual at his best giving a very real and forceful performance. Other characters to watch out for are Jimmy Sheirgill who has given a classic performance though undermined in the movie. Swara Bhaskar who plays Payal, the friend and personal counsellor to Tanu is quite good at it. Deepak Dobriyal and Eijaz Khan help lighten up the atmosphere of Tanu Weds Manu.
Accolades to the cinematographer of Tanu Weds Manu, Chirantan Das who has beautifully captured the hustle-bustle and the scenic beauty of the streets of Kanpur. Soundtracks like Sadi Gali and Jugni add to the flavour of the movie. All in all Anand Rai has done a good job at producing a light-hearted romantic flick. So if you are looking for some simple film and a family entertainer, pick Tanu Weds Manu.

Tanu Weds Manu Movie Rating: 3/5

Simbu is the funny cop in ‘Dabangg’ remake

Cop roles have been one of the most favourite roles for our heroes and interestingly most of the present top heroes have excelled in at least one film doing a cop role. When all his contemporaries have worn the uniform, can Silambarasan be lagging for long?

India v Bangladesh 1st Game ICC World Cup – India seek revenge

India who lost their last game against Bangladesh in the last edition of World Cup will search for the revenge when they take on them in front of their supportive home crowd. Bangladesh ensured India's early exit in the first round of the 2007 tournament in the Caribbean and Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is determined to avoid any repeat on the subcontinent.
This time M.S.Dhoni team is much different than it was in 2007 under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid or we can say the Greg Chappel who divided the team in more than two parts which resulted in an early exit from the tournament. However, this time around the teams look more solid and eager to win than before.
The batting demolition of New Zealand in Chennai followed a 38-run victory over three-time defending champion Australia on Sunday in Bangalore, achieved thanks to a superb effort from spinners Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh.

Nadunisi Naaygal Movie Review

Film: Nadunisi Naaygal

Starring: Sameera Reddy,Veera Bahu,Samantha

Director: Gautham Vasudev Menon

Producer: Jayaraman

Banner: Photon Kathaas,R. S. Infotainments

Nadunisi Naaygal is a Tamil thriller Movie releasing today. Nadunisi Naaygal is not a horror film but an unraveling of the story of a person and characters involved.Gautham Vasudev Menon has tried a different genre with Nadunisi Naaygal. It is a psycho thriller that takes place one night in the life of a psychopath with multiple personalities.
It is bizarre and deals with the quirky side of human behaviour. The film moves at a rapid pace with running time of under two hours.
Andrei Chikatilo of Ukraine was a serial killer who killed 53 women and children from 1978 to 1990. When prosecutors and psychologists delved into his background, they learned that young Chikatilo had witnessed the brutal killing and cannibalising of his elder brother by a group of starving villagers. Chikatilo was sentenced to death for his crimes. Ted Bunty of America confessed that he had murdered over 30 women after his arrest. Ted Bunty was born of an incestuous relationship of his mother and her father. He was executed for his crimes in 1989. Childhood greatly influences a person's development into adulthood. Psycho, Hannibal and The Silence of the Lambs were some movies that brought serial killing on screen in Hollywood. Nadunisi Naaygal is our very own movie which handles that horrible and unthinkable side of humans.
Motherless young Samar (Veera) is brought up by his father. Samar's father organises orgies at his residence in the night, but when young Samar accidentally witnesses them, he is forced by his father to particpate. His father sexually grooms him to be part of his lecherous activities. When Meenakshi (Swapna), a neighbour, suspects that something fishy might be happening at Samar's house, she sneaks in to find out the truth. Disgusted with witnessing a child being forced to indulge in sex, she calls the police, who raid Samar's residence, which ends up with Samar's father killing himself to escape the shame.
Orphaned by his father's death, Samar is adopted by Meenakshi, who brings him up like a son. Struggling with the effects of a traumatic childhood, Samar's world develops around Meenakshi. Now in his teens, he idolises Meenakshi, with whom he starts imagining a special relationship. When Meenakshi marries her friend, the beast inside Samar starts taking shape. He doesn't stop with slaughtering Meenakshi and her family, but goes on a killing spree while he reaches a stage of psychosis.
Can a thriller be made without background music and abrupt sounds? Yes it can and with success; that's what Nadunisi Naaygal proves. Goodbye songs, dances, overused themes, needless characters and Indian movie cliches. Newcomer Veera, as a person with split personality disorder, shines in enacting a suave man and doubling up as a savage serial killer. Dialogues are measured and help in reflecting the brutality of a serial killer. Samar's dialogues accentuate his complete detachment from reality and social life. When the police inspector kills the dog Samar sets on him, Samar questions him "Are you so inhumane as to kill a dog?"
With no help from adrenalin pumping audio, Manoj Paramahamsa's camera and Anthony's editing are the sole elements apart from the storyline to raise the viewer's anxiety. All these elements make the viewer's hearts race continuously for 90 minutes. Director Gautham Menon has also thrown light on two unexplored themes in Indian cinema: child sexual abuse and the life of the criminally insane. Nadunisi Naaygal is not for the faint hearted, but for people who want to witness Gautham Menon burning a new path in Indian Cinema.
Nadunisi Naaygal Movie Rating :2.5/5

KSD Appalaraju review !!

Sunil : His all time low performance. No ease at all. He did put some efforts in dances.

Swathi : She is ok, not a great role.

Music : A big let down, and BGM makes you run for some oxygen. Sucks big time.

Cinematography : LOL. No work done, camera angles are bad.Lighting schemes are alright.

Editing : Forget it.
